Meet The Designer
My fascination with gemstones and my subsequent love of jewellery began as a little girl on holiday on my uncle’s game farm in Botswana and the love affair has spanned for most of my life…..when I discovered that the tiny airstrip was in fact made up more of rough and tumbled gemstones than gravel…it was a whole stretch of Citrines, Agates, Rose Quartz and Crystals…which glistened in the African sun. I was instantly captivated and that is when I started collecting gemstones for their beauty and brilliance, their colours, uniqueness and magic… in the way they and their magnificence grow and evolve deep in the dark, unsupervised and unseen, until they are discovered and worked by humans. I knew at once that I wanted to spend the rest of my life creating beauty through jewellery and objects d’art out of precious metals to frame and showcase gemstones. I wanted to design and create unique, niche, bespoke and custom-made pieces, which not only tell stories about the elements they contain but also express the dreams and desires of the individuals, their personalities and self-expression for whom I design and create for…
After two years at University studying graphics and Fine Art I decided to follow my early dream of spending my life creating beauty through jewellery and objets d’art from precious metals and gemstones . I chose to do an experiential-based apprenticeship during which I was fortunate to be trained by a passionate master jeweller, who also further nutured the artist in me through his teachings which used traditional methods.
My designs and creations are inspired by nature, fluidity of line, Art Nouveau, whimsy and the sheer pleasure of producing handcrafted jewellery and precious pieces.
I value and love working closely with my clients interpreting and catering for their individual jewellery dreams….
My passion and care in the designing and creating of each individual piece, from the melting process, to the engineering, the components and mechanisms and the actual making of the pieces continually intrigue and entrance me. My now well trained hands dance during the labour of making them, especially for another who will derive timeless joy from them…
The combining of minute parts, which can either fit together to frame and showcase gemstones, or become a sophisticated, elegant, classic or contemporary piece of jewellery inspires me. These elements unite in design and proportion to create an aesthetically pleasing whole of timelessness, self expression, preciousness and value.
